Putting the "ass" in Manassas

Will not be moving to Manassas any time soon!

This is typical of the NOVA region. They don't pay you enough to live in your own place. You make do by getting a couple of friends together to split rent. I know I've done it. I NEEDED to do live with other people that were not family. I could not afford to live her otherwise.

I know that this law WILL NOT happen in Fairfax in this form. Students at George Mason University would be adversely affected and those parents would not be happy when they see it affects their pocketbooks. We can't have that now can we?

Going to the Skins game!

This is the first time in a LONG time that the Skins have played a meaningful game that I've witnessed first hand. I cannot wait.

The Skins can get in the playoffs with a win and the Cowboys, Falcons, and Vikings lose! It can happen. I believe!

Can you hear me now?

What an idiot!

Maybe she should've just given the cell phone to him and not been so dramatic! But I guess an esophogus blockage is preferable this holiday season. I wonder what type of phone is it? One of those old school Nokia phones? Or maybe a Razor?

Just when you think you know Republicans

One of them goes and does something that is completely out of character. From the Falls Church News-Press:

Raising eyebrows all over Virginia, McLean Republican State Del. Vincent J. Callahan, Jr., has prepared a bill for next month’s state legislative session in Richmond to raise the state minimum wage from its current level of $5.15 per hour to $8 within three years.

“It’s going to get some people’s attention,” Del. Callahan conceded in remarks to the News-Press, “We face an uphill battle.”

But he said it is a matter of “simple justice,” adding, “It is a disgrace to be paying so little now.” He estimated that 150,000 Virginians are now working at the minimum wage of $5.15, which is the lowest amount permissible by federal law.

Callahan’s bill would raise the minimum by a dollar an hour to $6.15 in the first year, to $7.15 in the second year and to $8 after three years

The national minimum wage is a travesty at $5.15 an hour. President Bush, when he heard of a woman who worked three jobs for her family, described the situation "uniquely American". That's a bunch of crap! You should not be forced to work three jobs so your family can make it in this country. The breakdown of the modern American family begins right here.

I don't know much about Callahan but I'm glad that he is putting this bill up. The slow increase in wages will allow companies to adjust their finances to accomodate this rise.

The bill might not get very far because of opposition from both sides of the aisle. But this is a step in the right direction for people and families hanging by their fingernails to survive.

Austin Powers can now move to Canada!

I'm speechless...Swing clubs legal in Canada!

Not a big fan of this but hey it's not my country.

Wow! Thank God that semester is done!

I'm done with this semester. I believe I achieved 2 As and a B+. Nine credits down the drain, 13 more to go. I'm in my third year of a three year teaching license. I need to take all of these classes to continue teaching next year. So I had to put the priority of school while continuing to teach over blogging. Now, I'm back...at least for a little while. For added enjoyment, I've included a picture of a cat that my girlfriend and I have adopted...
