Good News for Virginia Schools...and some bad

Virginia's higher institutions of learning have something to be proud of...

"The University of Virginia and the College of William and Mary offer some of the best values in the nation among public colleges.

That's according to Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine, which ranked 100 schools.

The magazine named Virginia and William and Mary third and fourth for best in-state tuition value for 2008. The University of Mary Washington ranked Number 14, Virginia Tech was Number 17 and James Madison University was Number 22 on the list."

Also:

Virginia public schools are ranked fifth in the nation according The Quality Counts report by Editorial Projects in Education.

Here is a detailed breakdown of Virginia's scores.

I'm happy that our state did so well according to this study. It's happened not because of great leadership from the bureaucrats but from the hard work and dedication from students, parents, and teachers.

According to this study, Virginia ranks 38th in state spending on education. Look at Wealth Neutrality Score. Virginia ranks 49th. We don't spread the wealth around enough to poorer districts.

Congratulations Scott Surovell!

Scott was elected to be Chairman of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee. According to my source, 374 votes were cast. These were the results:

217 Scott Surovell
152 Steve Bunn

It's exciting to be a Fairfax Democrat in 2008. Scott will have the privelege of making sure we pick up a couple of Congressional seats, a Senate seat, and to help maintain the Governor's mansion! Thanks to Steve Bunn for a good, clean race. Good luck Scott!

Hey it's only 523 days to the Democratic Primary...

in 2009. Even though we have more pressing concerns in 2008 like a chance to have two Democratic Senators, two-three more Democratic Representatives, and a Democratic President, I think it's a great idea to have a pissing contest over a primary that's still a year and a half away. It's good to take a page from the playbook of destructive politics by attacking your opponent when they have yet to declare and create a non-controversy controversy. Want to make yourself feel better about your candidate? Create what looks like a swarm of support from 15 people in Virginia in 2007 for a race in 2009.

Thanks to the past couple of weeks of over the top non-sense, I have been able to make my decision for 2009 so I can concentrate on 2008.

I would also like to take this occasion to announce my candidacy for the 2033 Gubinatorial Race. I figure this way I can start fundraising early and get my Facebook support down...Well I better get going it's only 9,289 days away until primary day!!!
