Goodbye Cruel World*
"Wherever they’s a fight so hungry people can eat, I’ll be there. Wherever they’s a cop beatin’ up a guy, I’ll be there. If Casy knowed, why, I’ll be in the way guys yell when they’re mad an’—I’ll be in the way kids laugh when they’re hungry n’ they know supper’s ready. An’ when our folks eat the stuff they raise an’ live in the houses they build—why, I’ll be there. See? God, I’m talkin’ like Casy. Comes of thinkin’ about him so much. Seems like I can see him sometimes."
--Tom Joad, The Grapes of Wrath
I'm done blogging for now. It's been fun and I've met a lot of people on the political spectrum that I've enjoyed. Still, I've noticed a trend the past few months on various blogs focusing on fluff rather than substance and it's left a sour taste in my mouth (could be the lime salsa I just ate).
For those who care, I finished my Masters in Special Education at GMU and that means I still have a job with Fairfax County. I also have been taking on additional responsibilities as Vice President of the Fairfax County Young Democrats.
That's where the quote above comes in to play. Tom Joad's is saying that he is going to organize people to fight the injustices that he sees. For him it's fair work with real wages, making sure families can eat, and the unity of mankind that drives him to action. For me, I want to see if the Fairfax Young Democrats can organize at the high school and college level so that they can become a force to be reckoned with when they are professionals. I hope I can make a difference.
So, I'll still be commenting but as for original posts...I'm done. Peace.
*This is 99% certain. I retain the right, like Michael Jordan, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Evander Holyfield to come back at any time if I've got something to say.
